Population ageing is accelerating globally and in Hong Kong, increasing the prevalence and costs of neurocognitive disorders (NCDs) such as mild cognitive impairment and dementia. Traditional clinic‑based neuropsychological testing is limited by clinician shortages, snapshot measurements, subjective recall, inter‑rater variability, and cultural/language biases—leading to under‑diagnosis and delayed care. Our project develops an accessible, automated evaluation platform that uses non‑intrusive spoken‑language biomarkers to screen and monitor cognitive health remotely. Short conversational recordings are analysed by AI to extract millisecond‑level speech events (latencies, dysfluencies, coherence) and longitudinal language features. Continuous, individualized “big data” enables early detection of subtle cognitive changes, timely alerts between clinic visits, and objective reports that support clinicians and caregivers. Benefits include earlier diagnosis, improved disease management, delayed institutionalisation, and reduced care costs. Our approach combines rigorous linguistic and clinical methods with fit‑for‑purpose deep learning, and is designed for cross‑cultural adaptation in Hong Kong. Aligned with WHO priorities on dementia as a public health concern, this research aims to deliver practical, privacy‑respecting tools that empower older adults, families, and health professionals.
